Feed the Fish - Prelimanary

Evaluation for Feed the Fish

For Feed the Fish, we tried to make our sequence short and simple. We received positive feedback mainly; however there were also areas of improvement.
Some positive feedback we received was;
    At the start, we had a good establishing shot. The establishing shot helped the audience to understand the story better as it showed where the sequence was taking place.
    When the character was walking into the building, we used the rule of 180 degrees. This showed the audience where the character was going in, and the next shot was showing the character coming into the building.
    When the character was going up the stairs, we used continuity editing to show that he was going up. The shots all linked well and made it clear what the character was doing. We also used a tilt for one of the shots, to show the character going up. We also used continuity editing when opening the door.
    We had good sophisticated shots. For example, we had a medium shot towards the end of the sequence, showing how the characters were sitting. This then cut to a close up of what the characters were doing (giving the tape) and then back to a mid shot to show the audience the dialogue between the two characters.
    Also, we had smooth cuts throughout the sequence, as we used a good variety of angles and frames.

Some negative feedback we received was;
  Always make sure that the character is in shot from the start
    Also, we cut of the head of one of the characters. To prevent this we could have used a low angle shot.
    We need to improve the shot reverse shot eye lines and also use the rule of thirds, rather than a point of view shot.

We had a few problems with the lighting whilst filming. This was because we wanted to film an establishing shot of the block, but the sunlight was in the background. This made it difficult for the audience to see what the establishing shot was. Hence we resulted in moving to a different block. Also, we missed out one of the shots and didn't realise until we came to edit the sequence.
I helped to develop the ideas during the pre production. Throughout the production, I shot some of the shots and helped to direct. Also, for some of the shots I was being filmed. During the past production, I used my previous knowledge of the software iMovie to help edit the sequence along with my group.
